About
James Murphy
My name is Jim Murphy. I love Walt Disney World and iced tea. I think comics are an under-appreciated form of literature and I'm a wedding photographer.
Art, in many forms, has always been an important part of my life. At Rhode Island College, I was a graphic design major and continue to pursue design as my career however, photography has always interested me. I remember sitting with my parents as a child, looking through old photos and laughing at the moments captured on film.
It wasn't until 2006 that I picked up my first SLR camera and suddenly, I was hooked. My cousins wedding of the same year was the first wedding I attended with my new camera in toe and I spent all evening snapping photos from the edge of the dance floor. From that night on I couldn't put my camera down. I was constantly experimenting with my camera in different settings, with different family members as my personal ginuea pigs. But it wasn't until after I became engaged to my now wife (aka my partner in crime and second shooter) that wedding photography even crossed my mind.
I love photographing the unplanned and organic moments. It's these unposed, unexpected, and unequaled moments that I tend to focus on. Moments like those have a fascinating effect of bringing the viewer into the past. Whether it's a father smiling proudly while giving his daughter away at the altar or a couple laughing together on a park bench, it's those emotions that I find myself drawn to.
Tana Murphy
My name is Tana Murphy. I think that no outfit is complete without oversized sunglasses, a fierce handbag, and fabulous shoes. I want to be Giada DeLaurentis. I love nothing more then sharing a bottle of wine (red if your buying) with my girlfriends on a Friday night. And I am the other half of James Murphy Photography.
If you ask my mom how I became interested in photography, she'll tell you that I was the child who created the little known art form known as taking photos of people, sans their head. Confused? I'll explain... As a child, my parents bought me a 110 mm camera which was lightweight and easy to operate. I, in all my chunky fingered glory, would press the shutter button down with such intensity that I would jostle the camera downward, creating the fine art form of headlessness.
Rest assured, I've come a long way from those days of chopping off Aunt Linda's head unintentionally. Now I spend my time capturing the perfect shot of your flip flop basket, your painstakingly hand crafted napkin rings, and even your too cute for words ring bearer. When I'm not sharing in your blissful day of matrimony, I'm off with my camera (complete with damask printed camera strap, naturally) capturing a newborns first week at home, a mom to be glowing with pregnancy bliss, or even a sexy & sassy lady strutting her stuff for my budding boudoir empire.
I like to think that Jim and I have a distinct advantage when we photograph weddings, as we just celebrated our first wedding anniversary. We are both incredibly aware of the time, energy, and the number of "yes dear's" that go into planning the perfect day! Capturing the organic moments of happiness and love are at the top of our priorities during your wedding day. We promise to laugh and celebrate with you and I'll always be there with the Kleenex for those unexpected tears (heaven forbid you ruin your makeup!).
